How did colonial hierarchy in latin colonies change after independence?

There was little change in class structure after independence succeeded. And no place was this more the case than in Brazil, where independence was a matter of imperial declaration and not even a change in regime. Changes in Latin American countries' class structure since independence has happened substantially due to government mandates.
