This road was considered as most ancient roads of Roman Republic which were also strategically important. Rome and Brindisi were connected through this route which was the part of Southeast Italy. This route was also known as ‘Queen of Long Routes”. The name of this route was named after a Roman censor, ‘Appius Claudius Caecus’. During the period of Samnite wars, He was the cone who started and completed the first section of this road which was used for military movement during this war. This route was built specifically to transport military troops and supplies to small regions of Greater Rome. The other main road which was there during that time was Etruscan which led towards Eturia which was another big city of Rome of that period. The Romans were always considered as the masters of road constructions. The construction of this road started in 312 BC and ended on 312 BC Itself. The constructions of the road startedwhen a level dirt road and above that mortar and small stones were laid. Upon this, Graver was laid and that was finally topped with tight fitting and interlocking stones were added to get tight gripping from the road.
