The Nine of Little Rock were nine African American students who, with the support of Daisy Bates, were the first black children in 1957 to Little Rock Central High, a high school in Little Rock, Arkansas. This was made possible by the ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, which abolished racial segregation in public schools.  

Governor Faubus sent the National Guard on 4 September to prevent the children from going to school. The children would try again on September 23. President Eisenhower then sent federal troops and ordered them to protect the children. These entered into school, accompanied by racist cries from a furious crowd.
