The reforms of Peter the Great also called The reforms of Peter I were a series of transformations in the Russian state and public life, carried out during the reign of Peter I in Russia.
All the reform efforts of Peter I can be divided into two periods (stages): 1696-1715 and 1715-1725.
The peculiarity of the first stage was the rapidity and the character not always reflective, which is explained by the conduct of the Northern War. The reforms were mainly aimed at raising funds to carry out the war, they were carried out by force and often did not give the desired results. In addition to government reforms, in the first stage extensive reforms were carried out to modernize the lifestyle. In the second period, the reforms were much more systematic.
Several historians, for example, Klyuchevsky, pointed out that Pedro's reforms were only a natural continuation of the changes that took place during the seventeenth century. Other historians (for example, Sergei Solovyov), on the contrary, emphasized the revolutionary character of Peter's transformations.
The historians, who analyzed the reforms of Pedro I, have different points of view on their personal participation in them. One group believes that both in the elaboration of the reform program and in the process of its implementation, Pedro did not play the main role (which was attributed to him as Emperor of all Russias). Another group of historians, on the contrary, write about the great personal role of Peter the Great in the implementation of certain reforms.
