John adams’ alien and sedition acts influenced the election of 1800 because they were widely popular because people trusted the federal government. power stayed with the federalists with john adams reelection. they were widely unpopular because people saw them as the federal government becoming too powerful. power transferred to the democratic-republicans under jefferson’s election, with the states holding more power. they led people to elect a british king washington came out for election because the people did not trust the government under anyone else.
