According to Thomas Paine, the American colonies should establish a republic and be ruled by the popular consent of the governed. Paine rejected the hereditary monarchy of the British Empire (Kings/Queens), and he believed that King George III was a “tyrant” who did not merit the respect and obedience of the American colonists. Explain why Paine believed it was necessary for America to support the American Revolution and reject the British government!
