I need help with this! Following the Civil War, the South was in ruins; cities had been burned to the ground, a fourth of the men had died in the war, and the end of slavery meant changing the way cotton, tobacco, and other crops were produced and harvested. President Lincoln and Congress had a difficult task ahead: how best to balance punishing the former Confederacy and its supporters while repairing the Union into a single, unified country once more.

As mentioned in the Unit and your United States History and Geography textbook, several different proposals were made regarding how to reconstruct the South. These included President Lincoln's plan, the Radical Republicans' plan, and the final Reconstruction plan passed by Congress. In a five paragraph essay, compare (find similarities) and contrast (find differences) two of these plans and discuss which plan you think was best or what changes you would have made.

In your first paragraph, discuss the similarities between the two plans you chose.

In your second paragraph, discuss the differences between the two plans you chose.

In the third paragraph, explain which plan you think was superior and explain why.

Discuss any changes you would have made to the plan; how could you improve it?
