Mapping Physical Features and Climates Consider what geographers look for when studying a region. If they are examining the physical geography, they will think about
the physical features, climates, and biomes that exist in that area. In this task, you will shade areas of a country map with the
proper climates, and draw and label the physical features.
Open the blank map file and look at the maps of Australia, Italy, and Mexico. Choose one of these country maps and research
the country's climate zones. Then complete the following activity:
Draw the climate zones on the map in different colors, and make a legend noting the climate that each color represents.
Identify the country's major physical features. Draw and label the following information on the map:
• mountain ranges
• deserts
• rivers
• lakes
• bordering oceans or seas
• any other distinct physical features or points of interest
To see a sample map and get some mapping tips, view this mapping guide. The tips included in the mapping guide can be used
as a reference but may not apply to all image or word processing programs. Your chosen map can be copied from its current file
and pasted into the program you choose to use for completing this task.
