Changing leadership is a difficult enough adjustment without calling an election every time a crisis occurs. Government runs best, perhaps, when it runs smoothly.  The way the present constitution works is that when the president can no longer serve, the vice president takes over.

As a further footnote, the election in 2020 cost 14 billion. It isn't cheap to call an election.
