To Kill a Mockingbird 1. Pick the passage you want to analyze. What that means is, pick Jem, Scout, or Dill and think of one chapter that is very important to them growing up. Then, decided what part of the Chapter you want to use. You can use as little as one paragraph or as much as a whole chapter, but you cannot use two chapters. You can use anywhere in the book.
2. Pick the theme you want to use. Look at the passage you choose and decide what the big theme is. Make sure it's a solid theme that you can write an essay about. Do not use a cliche theme like: don't judge a book by it's cover, don't judge someone because of their race, or walk a mile in someone else's shoes. Those are too easy and off limits.

Write the chapter and theme you want to use.
