Why do people look at skin color?
Why does that have to matter?

Well, Skin color is the result of evolution. Some factors that contributed to skin color were diet and location. As for the location aspect, skin color evolved light or dark depending on the specific defenses the body needed to survive in that particular environment. From this purely scientific aspect, skin color does matter. It allowed for the survival and adaptation of our species.
