This was a system by which men of a certain age could be called to serve in the US Armed Forces. It was not a voluntary enlistment. Each man who was within the age limits received a draft card, and if he was called, he was expected to serve. The draft was not a popular system among many Americans. In 1965, a man named David Miller, a pacifist who did not believe in war, was the first to burn his draft card in protest. Believing the US should not be involved in the war, thousands of others set their draft cards on fire as a symbol of protest. What conclusion can be drawn about why thousands of men burned their draft cards during the 1960s and 1970s? They were attempting to change the policies of the draft. They were protesting US involvement in the Vietnam War. They wanted to declare their right to decide when to join the armed forces. They wanted to confuse the government by causing chaos in the draft system. Mark this and return
