Supreme Court is best characterized as an appellate court since it has more authority compared to other courts in the judicial system Appellate court Appellate courts are courts in the Judicial system that have  a responsibility of reviewing and hearing appeals from legal cases that have already been heard in the lower trial courts. Unlike trial courts, the appellate courts do not hear new evidence or retry cases.
