How did the japanese advances in the south pacific in 1942 affect the american and allied forces? a huge number of allied forces died brutal deaths as prisoners of war. the persistent wave of japanese successes was detrimental to the morale of allied forces. the allies were forced to withdraw and admit defeat on every single island they occupied. allied forces were more ready than ever to fight the japanese kamikazes.
