The Seven Years' War was, in a way, a true world war. This war was fought in Europe, India, North America and at sea.

The war began due to the conflicting interests of Britain, Prussia and Hanover against an alliance formed by France, Austria, Sweden, Saxony, Russia and Spain. This was particularly driven by commercial and imperial competition between all the powers. In the North American theatre, the war was fought mainly between the rival forces of Britain and France. One of the most important legacies of this event for North America was that this laid down the foundations of modern Canada.
