Most of what Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence is directly influenced by john Lock's ideas about government. There are many ideas in the Declaration of Independence such as the idea that all people are entitled to certain rights by virtue of being human and that a government's legitimacy comes from the consent of the people to be governed, evolved during the enlightenment period. The most important idea incorporated in the constitution is that the main purpose of the government is to protect the right of people.
