Thomas Nast drawings was the reason of the downfall of Boss Tweed, a powerful Tammany Hall leader. Boss Tweed led a ring that controls the city government and he defrauded the city's million dollars. Moreover, Thomas Nast attacks Tammany corruption through his cartoons which he published in the pages of Harpers. This lead to the Rings removal of power.

Thomas Nast was caricaturist and cartoonist who hailed from German. He was a connoisseur of Democratic Congressman "Boss" Tweed and the Tammany Hall Common party administrative machine.

Thomas Nast is recognized as the "Father of the American Cartoon," having performed paradoxical art during the 19th century which critiqued slavery.
