Europeans traveled across the Mediterranean Sea to reach the Silk Road in order to obtain clothes, spices, and other goods.

The Silk Road was a network of trade routes organized from the Chinese silk business since the 1st century BC, that extended by all the Asian continent, connecting China with Constantinople.

Many products transited these routes: precious stones and metals (Golconda diamonds, Burma rubies, China jade, Persian Gulf pearls), wool or linen fabrics, amber, ivory, lacquer, spices, porcelain, glass, manufactured materials, coral, etc.
