How does the u. s. determine electoral college #?

I remember learning that each state gets different people elected to the electoral college based on their population. That's how Texas, California, Florida, and Ohio have such importance in every election. The big states with more votes are a very big deal because they add up quick. If a candidate gets many big states with more electoral college voters, then they will basically win the election because the other states can't add up to as much. Hope this helps you.
