Is this information hi, my name, is gloria, i am a teenage girl of the citizen class from athens, greece. i am visiting sparta, greece. i have noticed if i lived in sparta i could not be a citizen. i also have noticed the difference of the social structure here than in athens. in athens, the social structure is aristocrats, citizens, citizens’ families, freeman, and slaves. the aristocrats are at the top and the wealthiest. the citizens and the citizens’ families are second and third most important. the citizens may be men or woman. freeman are people who work and live in athens without becoming a citizen. lastly, are slaves, which are often caught in war and not enslaved through government. here in sparta it is citizens, freeman and helots. the citizens are only men and work for the government and with politics. next, are freeman which are not citizens but work and live in sparta. lastly, are helots which are like slaves that do farm work and can be- and are- legally killed during a certain time of year. helots have the worst life! another thing that i believe is different between the two city-states is athens is based on art and theater and sparta is based on the army and war. some things that are the same in athens and in sparta is that they were an oligarchy. this means a few people made the decisions and ruled the government. (athens has changed to a democracy nowadays). the sparta and the athens also ate some of the same foods. the athens could not grow many crops so they ate mostly meat. the spartans also ate meat because they believed it would make them stronger and more fit.
