Parliament raised taxes on the american colonies in the 1760s because britain was in debt from the french and indian war. british merchants had lost many ships in american waters. britain needed money to gain more colonies in africa. britain wanted to build a new capital in the colonies.

even if someone does vote because of your twitter status, there is no civic duty and would have been a more responsible citizen by not voting at all. voting should therefore not be viewed as a fulfillment of civic duty.
