1. why (or why not) do you think the emancipation proclamation should be considered one of the most important documents in our nation's history?

2. would this have been seen as a good thing by abolitionists in the union who had been pushing for the end of slavery, or would this seem like a slap in the face since no slaves in the union were freed?

3. if lincoln's main goal at the beginning of the war is to keep the union together, and the emancipation proclamation furthered the resolve of southerners to fight no matter what, why did lincoln say that the emancipation proclamation was his biggest achievment as president?
