The brief time from 1905 to 1910 was essential to the development of modern art and modern physics much in part to the political and economic issues that were affecting people at during that five-year period.
An artistic movement known as Fauvism began in France during this time and changed the approach of many artists from that of the Symbolist art movement which concentrated on spiritual mysticism, the deviant, the sensual, and the depraved. Symbolists put their focus on theoccult, the melancholic, fantasy, gloomy, and malevolent subjects whereas those who produced works in the Fauve style chose vivid jovial landscapes and figured portraits. They used intense shades and brushwork that were quite distinctive.
Artists incorporated imagery, design, and academic concepts to produce works that embraced individual expression. Artists drew from the ideas of scientific leaders such as Einstein, whose annus mirabilis papers became the basis of modern physics and others such as Bohr, Rutherford,Thomson and the Curies, who were leading the field in their works.
