How did french and dutch settlements compare to the spanish colonies?

VERY HARSH. they killed many of those they saw, either directly by the sword/gun or indirect by disease. they enslaved many too. 
aztec/incan cities, modern day puerto rico, honduras, islands around there. 
those with "pure" spanish blood ruled. then those with some spanish, some indian. indians were basically slaves. 
simon bolivars revolution is important. 

french- 

canada 
fur trading mainly. they just wanted trade routes with indians. 
catholic 
good. they didn't try imposing their religion as much as others. they wanted allies with the indians, and good trade partners.
