HELP PLS :( John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, William Crawford, and Henry Clay all ran for president in the election of 1824. None of the candidates was able to win the majority of the electoral votes, and the House of Representatives selected the president from the top three candidates. Henry Clay, who was the Speaker of the House, was not one of the top three candidates. The House of Representatives chose John Quincy Adams, and shortly after he was inaugurated, he selected Henry Clay to be Secretary of State.
What was Andrew Jackson's reaction to the election?
