HELP PLZ Now that you have learned why the colonists declared independence and read their grievances, you can understand why it was so important to break from Britain. But can you imagine if the Declaration of Independence was never written? Imagine if the colonists’ grievances against Britain were still around today. What would life be like without jury trials or being able to elect government officials? Can you imagine having a standing army in your neighborhood?

Your task is to write a fictional newspaper story assuming that the Declaration of Independence was never written. Assume that the United States does not exist, as it is still a British colony. Imagine that the same issues that the colonists experienced in the late 1700s are still happening today! Your assignment is to choose two of the grievances to incorporate into a story as if they were still occurring. Your story should show the impact that this has on the citizens today. Be creative!

- No trials by jury
- Not able to trade freely
- Unfair taxes
- Quartering troops in your home
- Not able to vote for government leaders
