As Americans listened to the Four Freedoms Speech in January of 1941, possible U. S. involvement in WWII was looming on the horizon. Most Americans recognized the correlation between the freedoms he discussed and our founding ideals as a nation, but there was great debate as to whether it was our responsibility to protect/spread those ideas worldwide, particularly if it would result in U.
