According galileo, why do some people think his teachings are heretical

Galileo theory was rejected from the church when he started stating that the Earth revolves around the Sun. His views were very different from the church teachings which have been preached for many years before, it was considered to be the opposite of the Christian believes where the Sun revolves around the Earth. People feared that if the theory given by Galileo were true then where does the Church stand in it. So people started believing Galileo theory to be heresy.
