The President of the United States has come to you for advice. A former colony of France in Africa has recently gained its independence. However, there is a civil war in the new country between communists and people who want to make the new nation a democracy. You have intelligence that shows that the Soviet Union has been providing weapons and training to the communist soldiers. If you do nothing, the communists might win the war, providing the Soviet Union with a new ally, however if you commit to support the democratic forces you will be sacrificing American resources, and possibly lives with no guarantee of victory. If you send in the US military to support the forces of democracy you will likely win the war and gain an ally, but could incite a bigger conflict with the Soviet Union. What will you advise the president to do?
