this quote from thomas paine's pamphlet common sense points out that colonists were not just english but from all parts of europe. why would paine argue this point?
to prove america is not and was never european
to get people to move their allegiance away from england
to get people to believe their ancestors were from europe
to make the colonists understand their varied heritage
