the great depression was bound to happen. the stock market crashed in 1929. after this, people panicked and went to the banks to get all of their money. the smoot-hawley tariff played an important role in the great depression as well. the smoot-hawley tariff raised taxes on imports which then other countries clashed back and put in place their own tariffs. during 1930-1936 the plains of american faced a terrible drought called the dust bowl meaning farms couldn't grow crops and lots of farms closed during this time as well.
