the three individuals who i feel contributed to modern western society are socrates, plato, and aristotle. to begin, socrates, he created the groundwork for the western systems of logic and philosophy. he eventually became known as a questioner of everything and everyone which was known as the socratic method which we use to this day. "socrates himself wrote no books. instead he spent his days in the town square asking people about their beliefs(world history pg.143 5.3). next is plato, he conveyed and expanded on the ideas and techniques of his teacher socrates after he was sentenced to death. the academy he founded was the world's first university. "when he returned, he set up a school called the academy. there, he taught and wrote about his won ideas"(world history pg. 143 5.3). finally, aristotle, who was one of plato's students. he analyzed all forms of government. "he set up a school, the lyceum, for the study of all branches of knowledge. he left writings on politics, ethics, logic, biology, literature, and many other subjects"(world history pg. 144 5.3).
