The Planet orbits the sun once every 365 days and rotates once every 24 hours along its axis. The Earth's rotation on its axis is due to day and night, not its orbiting around the sun. The word 'one day' is determined by the time it takes for the Planet to spin once on its axis which requires time for both day and night.
