How did britain withdrawing troops encouraged British North America to think about creating single country

Britain stationed troops all over the world to make its colonies secure. However, it was expensive to maintain these troops overseas. Britain became involved in a war with Russia, known as the Crimean War. The British used their strategy of lining soldiers. war as 'slim'. Apparently Britain was the one to decide whether or not BNA needed protection and 'predict the future' for them. If I were in BNA, I wouldn't want another country far away telling me whats going to happen and what's best for my colony. I would want someone from the inside calling the shots...a single government. British withdrawals of troops overall made the people feel less secure along with afraid. There were too many colonies in BNA to develop a single defence strategy. This also proved how fragile the dependence on Britain was. With Britain just taking away their soldiers at any given time, this must have made BNA unnerved and constantly worried.
