The English said the colonization of the new land would give them many advantages. It would not only serve as a protection against Catholic Spain, but it would also supply them with new materials and a new market for the finished products.

For both France and Holland, they wanted to find gold, silk, and fur in the new world. In fact, this is what attracted most of europe to come to America and Canada.

All of them were successful in the settlement. The french settled in Quebec, Canada and the dutch settled in Albany, New York. Exporting products such as fish, rice , sugar, and furs, is what most of the colonies did. But the english were the most successful. The Puritans settled in what is now New England.

However, settlers illegally imported slaves into the colony, forcing the owners to abandon the idea of a colony free of slaves.
