Yes because the silk ride had trailers and stuff from China and the Roman’s got stuff from China. Initially just trying to establish knowledge of the other culture, the Chinese and Roman Empires grew substantially in mutual awareness and interaction over the centuries. Eventually, important cultural and economic trading routes known as the Silk Road came to define global interaction between East and West.

Most of ancient Chinese knew the Roman through the travelling traders from middle Asia who brought in Roman goods and fragmented information on Roman ethnics and society. Though archaeologist today found trace of Roman activity in China, like coins, wall paintings, less is still known nor proven whether these Roman traces were left over by middle Asian traders or real Roman individuals. However even today people in China are confused on the origin of the name as neither the pronunciation nor meaning has little link to Roman. One attempt to explain is that as Chin, or Qin, was an ancient Chinese kingdom and the first dynasty of China founded by kings, or to say clans and houses living in today's western China, people in Han dynasty, the Dynasty after Chin, invented the word Great Chin to describe a fictional empire located west of China, where the ancient Chin came.

To people in Han dynasty, they believed the existence of Roman empire was 80% true but kept away by the vast geography and political obstacles in middle Asia. An expedition journey was sent by Han dynasty court to locate Roman, but unfortunately their were finally stopped by a large water body, very possibly today's Black Sea, and as they failed to discover a way ahead they turned back. So, the exact existence of Roman was never truly known to ancient Chinese.
