Why did Britain seek to tax the colonists in the 1760s?

The King of Britain and Parliament felt they were justified  and had the right in taxing the colonies. Britain made the decision of requiring many types of taxes from the colonists in order to help pay for the expenses of the French and Indian War. Additionally, other laws, for example such as the Townsend Acts were also passed in 1767, which required the colonists to pay taxes on imported goods like tea.
