ever-flowing stream of native soldiers of sufficient fidelity. At the time of the Mutiny
there were 38,000 British soldiers in a population of 180,000,000. If the Mutiny has been

The reason for the Mutiny was the introduction of new rifle cartridges, which were thought to be lubricated with grease containing a mixture of pigs’ and cows’ lard and thus religiously impure for Muslims and Hindus.

Britishers were harsh against the protesters who were reluctant to touch those cartridges. Following which Indian troops started to protest by shooting their senior British officers and marched to Delhi.

Therefore, the lack of respect for the beliefs and traditions of the local population by the Britishers resulted into the Great Mutiny of 1857.
