On December 16, 1773, a group of Massachusetts colonists snuck onto three British tea ships in Boston Harbor and dumped 342 chests of tea into the water. The “Boston Tea Party,” as it became known, was in protest of the Tea Act of 1773, which helped the East India Company but hurt all other tea traders wanting to do business in the colonies. $18,000 worth of tea was dumped into the harbor that night. How do you feel about protests? Do you think it is OK to destroy property in protest like the colonists did? Why or why not?
