Bill into a Law Directions: You are to create and pass laws that you would like to see or see changed. The laws must be school appropriate.
Step 1: Creating the Bill
I. The Bill: You are to write three specific bills that will create a law that you would like to see or see changed. Make sure your bills are specific. Rename your Document: First Name Last Initial Bills
II. Reason for the Bill: Under your bill you are to write why you want the bill or why it is important.
III. You will have 15 Minutes in class to write your bills.
IV. Highlight 1 of the Bills proposed that you think is most important to pass.
Step 2: Passing the bills
You have been divided into the House and the Senate. You have also been divided into a committee within your legislative body.
I. Introduction: Each person will introduce their bills to their legislative body and share it with the Speaker of the House or the President Pro Tempore.
II. Committee: The leaders of the House and Senate will divide the bills and share half to each committee. Each committee will elect a committee chair. The chair will run the voting in the committee.
III. In each committee you will vote on the bill and add amendments to the bill if allowed. The passed bills will be returned to the leader of their perspective houses.
IV. The Floor: The leaders will start the voting on the bill. You will vote on one bill at a time. If your bill gets 50% of the vote you will be passed in your house.
V. After your bill has been passed in your house it will get shared with the leader of the other house where it will be voted on. If you bill passes both houses it will go to the President (ME J) who will sign or veto it.
Step 3: Signing the bill into Law
I. I will sign or veto the bills. You will have a chance to override my veto.
