According to Ohio Senate Bill 199, which went into effect March 21, 2017, Governor Kasich lifted the blanket prohibition on firearms on college campuses, pending approval by the college’s Board of Trustees. The law maintains the current prohibition preventing concealed handguns on any property owned or leased by a public or private institution of higher education, unless the gun is locked in a motor vehicle. Imagine Ashland University’s student senate petitioning our board of trustees to allow concealed carry on campus, including in this ethics classroom, employing utilitarian justifications in favor of the effort.
