he is saying in his quote that native americans are "savages" and that having a country full of trees is bad

in reality, it was the white colonizers that were the savages because they burnt down native homes and comitted  violent acts against them.

many native populations value nature and therefore would disagree with Jackson stating that having trees is basically worthless.
