Athenians valued knowledge and interpretation. They are known for creating democracy and taking advantage of their free time. Like many cultures at the time, women were expected to have a care-giving role, while men were the face of the government. In addition to politicians, other Athenian careers included philosophers, mathematicians, artists, and sculptors. In Spartan culture, boys were trained to be warriors from a young age. They valued strength and survival. This being said, they did not spend excess time on creativity.
