In Imperialism in Asia, How did each conquering nation took control over countries in Asia?

Nations were able to take control over countries in Asia through the Spheres of Influence and the Open Door Policy. The Spheres of Influence in China was when different European nations (primarily by Russia, France, Germany, and Great Britain) had control over prosperous Chinese ports and had control of trade in that region disregarding the rights of the Chinese people. Europeans were so successful in controlling China because each European country had power over a few Asian countries. Thus, collectively, they had a firm hold on China, in which China was ultimately powerless
