Conservative critics, however, claimed that there was too much taxation and government regulation. Which rebuttal refutes the counterclaim? Increased business taxes caused political unrest throughout the country. Government regulation prevented the economy from continuing to plummet. Unemployment rates remained high despite increased government regulation. Businesses were being taxed at a higher rate than they had been prior to the Great Depression.
