What was the American colonists' position on the taxes Parliament imposed on them in the 1760s? The taxes are too high, but we have a duty to pay them as British citizens.

We will agree to pay the taxes, but only if Parliament reimburses us after Britain is out of debt.

The colonies are a sovereign nation, so England has no governing authority over us.

We did not elect representatives to Parliament, so Parliament has no right to tax us.
