Assignment Summary
For this assignment, you will create a timeline that traces major events in the European Theater in the
wake of the United States joining World War II. The timeline will show the dates of key invasions and
conquests in Europe, such as D-Day.
Background Information
You will create a timeline that shows key battles and other events that took place in Europe during World
War II. List major turning points from the lesson. Then complete research online using credible sources to
identify other events to include on your timeline.
Assignment Instructions
For this project, you are expected to submit:
1. A timeline of turning points in the European Theater during World War II
Step 1: Prepare for the project.
a) Read through the guide before you begin so you know the expectations for this project.
b) If there is anything that is not clear to you, be sure to ask your teacher.
Step 2: Identify the dates of 10 major events in the European Theater after the United States joined the
Allies, such as:
Victory in Stalingrad
D-Day
Conquest of Sicily
Battle of the Bulge
Yalta Conference
Battle of Berlin
V-E Day
Step 3: Complete research to identify other major battles, invasions, or other events in Europe during the
war that you can include.
a) Conduct online research using reputable sources.
b) Create a list of the sources you used.
Step 4: Plot all of the events on a vertical or horizontal timeline. For each event, please include the
following:
a) The name of the event
b) The date it took place
c) A short sentence to describe it

Step 5: Include a photo that shows one of the events on the timeline.
a) Add a caption to identify the event and describe what is happening in the image.
Step 6: Evaluate your project using this checklist.
If you can check each box below, you are ready to submit your project.

Are all of the events listed in chronological order?
Are all of the events related to the European Theater after the United States joined the Allies?
Does each event on the timeline include a name, date, and short sentence to describe it?
Did you include a photo with a caption that shows one of the events from the timeline?
Did you use reputable, reliable sources for your online research?
Have you listed all of the sources you used?
Is your writing free of spelling and grammatical errors?
Step 7: Revise and submit your project.
a) If you were unable to check off all of the requirements on the checklist, go back and make
sure that your project is complete. Save your project before submitting it.
b) Submit your timeline through the Virtual Classroom.
