Once upon a time, humans were fueled by the animals and plants they ate and the wood they burned. They were aided by their domesticated animals, which used to provide most of the energy to use. Windmills and waterwheels captured some extra points, but there was too little in reserve. All life operated within the flow of energy from the Sun to Earth.

Industrial Revolution began around 1750; everything changed during the Industrial Revolution. People found a different source of energy. That source was fossil fuels coal, oil, and natural gas. However, coal led the way formed underground from plants and animals' remains from much earlier geologic times.

We cannot say that the old world has been wholly diminished, but we are modified according to the industrial revolution. We cannot go back to the ancient world because one cannot imagine life without these facilities.
