In the Classical period, both Rome and China are growing their empires. What both China and Rome participated in was that they both created an arrangement of streets. The roads were essential to the empires because it made commerce comfortable and it made communication everywhere the empires viable.

Both the Roman and Han markets were in great part based on agriculture. Sea business was less valuable than land commerce and the point that Rome was a marine empire than the Han Dynasty meant that trade played a more prominent role in Roman economics.
