Why did the British decide to investigate the city of Concord

Key to the British Army's decision to march on Lexington and Concord were reports that the Colonial militia was stockpiling weapons in those towns. As a result, the British Army also felt as if they could easily capture leaders if the stockpile proved to be good intelligence

British soldiers marched to Concord to get a stockpile  of ammunition that the patriots had.

Explanation: A British soldier fired even though he was told not to. They killed 8 minutemen farmers by shooting in the back. Then, they proceeded to Concord.
